A Little Bit About Michael
My Journey to Fitness
My interest in fitness came later in life. I was the typical “chosen last for the team” throughout school. In my 30s, I received a package of personal training sessions at the local JCC and that was the beginning of a long journey from a sedentary lifestyle to competing in numerous 5K races, completing 3 half-marathons, completing several obstacle course races, and ultimately to becoming an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Certified Personal Trainer.
I was inspired by several excellent trainers and yoga teachers over the years to set and achieve higher goals for myself. After 25+ years serving as a pulpit rabbi full-time, I began a new chapter in my life in the fitness world.
As a Baby Boomer, I take a particular interest in working with those 55+. I am a certified Functional Aging Specialist through FAI (Functional Aging Institute). Our philosophy is that as we grow older, we need not grow weaker and more frail.
On the contrary, research shows that at any age we can work to maintain and even improve our levels of physical fitness. The focus is on mobility (keeping our body moving as it should), balance, and strength. The ultimate goal is to be able to carry out the activities of daily living with energy and confidence so that we can remain independent long into our senior years.
I have extensive experience working with those over 55 (and as old as 93) and am familiar with the various conditions that accompany us as we grow older. I have come back from injuries and surgeries and understand the struggles of trying to successfully regain previous abilities. My years as a rabbi have given me a greater sense of empathy, a listening ear, and an appreciation and respect for others and their experiences.
I look forward to working with you to be stronger and more independent as we make our way into the “years of wisdom” ahead. As a naccredited Personal Trainer, I firmly believe in the positive benefits fitness brings to all areas of our lives. Are you ready to make a change?
